- A feud is brewing between New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick and Alex Guerrero, Tom Brady’s business partner and fitness guru, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, though the specifics are unknown.
- Guerrero also works with Patriots players like Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman.
- Another sportswriter says Guerrero may have been barred from the Patriots’ sidelines and facilities.
Though Alex Guerrero seems to be getting more popular in the New England Patriots locker room because of his fitness and nutrition work with Tom Brady, coach Bill Belichick is reportedly not a fan.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter told WEEI’s “Kirk and Callahan” last week that a feud between Belichick and Guerrero was brewing but that the specifics were unknown.
Guerrero is Brady’s business partner who helps run the TB12 Sports Therapy Center. He encouraged Brady to adopt the philosophy of pliability and stretching, and he oversees his intense fitness and diet regimen. Guerrero also works with other Patriots players like Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman.
“There’s some sort of issue,” Schefter told WEEI. “I truly do not know the extent of it. I don’t know how long it has been brewing or the history of it. Clearly, I think there’s something there, but I don’t know what to make of it, to be honest with you.”
The show also included a clip of Greg Bedard, a Boston sportswriter, saying he had heard Guerrero was barred from the Patriots’ sidelines and facilities. Earlier in the season, Guerrero was seen on the sidelines during games, and he has travelled with the team.
ESPN reported in October that there was a “collision coming” between Guerrero and Belichick. And when asked about Guerrero in the past, Belichick has reiterated that Guerrero is not on the Patriots staff, saying only that he works with Brady.
Belichick also called the ESPN report – which said he eventually wanted to turn from Brady to Jimmy Garoppolo – “fake news” in November.
Asked about Belichick’s relationship with Brady, Schefter said he thought it was good but that like all relationships it could fluctuate.
“I don’t think that is an issue,” Schefter said. “Listen, I think there have been some dynamics this year – the Alex Guerrero one, the Jimmy Garoppolo one. Every relationship goes through different phases, ons and offs and ups and downs. Honestly, I don’t know where they are at today.
“I just know that the Guerrero thing has been an issue at some point this season,” he added. “It’s come up. It is not the first time it has been brought to my attention.”
Belichick is known for keeping his team focused and the distractions limited, so it’s not much of a surprise that he may not enjoy Guerrero’s presence.
