After 12 weeks in the AFC, Houston, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and New England are locks for the playoffs. In the NFC, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Green Bay will be in the postseason. That leaves five spots (2 in the AFC, 3 in the NFC) that are still up for grabs. Let’s take a look at the teams that did the most to help their chances this weekend…
According to TeamRankings.com, the Broncos win over the San Diego Chargers increased their chances of making the playoffs by 16.7 per cent, to 45.2 per cent this week. That was the largest jump of the week. Unfortunately for the Broncos, they still trail the Oakland Raiders (56.2%) in the AFC West.
The Cowboys had their second straight big bounce, with their playoff hopes jumping 15.5 per cent to 79.0 per cent. Last week, their chances jumped 13.2 per cent. In the weak NFC East, the only thing keeping the Cowboys from being a lock is two remaining games against the second-place Giants. As long the Giants don’t sweep those games, the Cowboys should be in the playoffs.
At the other end, the San Diego Chargers were the biggest losers. Prior to their loss to the Broncos, they still had an outside shot of making the playoffs (23.4%). But now that number is 3.3 per cent and they are close to elimination.
