A Manhattan lawyer accused Paul Hastings of slander and assault after a partner at the global law firm allegedly spat in his face. The partner, Allan Bloom, allegedly yelled and pointed his finger about a foot away from opposing counsel Kenechukwu Okoli’s face, the Am Law Daily reported.

While Bloom yelled, spit from his mouth allegedly hit Okoli, who then slapped Bloom in the face.

Okoli reportedly said he was defending himself from Bloom and that the spit was an accident.

The fight broke out while the two lawyers questioned witnesses in an employment discrimination case, the Am Law Daily reported.

Paul Hastings told Am Law Daily that it’s “not enough to plead assault; one must have a well grounded fear of imminent physical harm, not a well grounded fear of spittle.”
