The first time an aspiring tattoo artist graduates from sketching in a notebook to actually tattooing a real person, there’s always going to be a certain amount of risk involved for the person acting as their human canvas.
But what if tattoo artists could get acquainted with the texture and nuances of tattooing skin without having to risk leaving their friend with a botched tattoo?
That’s the idea behind a new notebook called “The Skin Book” created by Tattoo Art Magazine with the help of Brazilian ad agency Lew’Lara TBWA, according to Gizmodo. The Skin Book ditches paper pages in favour of pages made of synthetic skin, giving tattoo artists a sketchbook where each page looks and feels like human skin.
With The Skin Book, Tattoo Art Magazine is hoping to remove some of the stress for first-timers while also giving seasoned tattoo artists a place to practice that lets them use their real needles instead of a pencil or pen.
There’s no word yet on whether Tattoo Art Magazine plans to sell The Skin Book or whether it will simply remain a marketing stunt, but it certainly looks like a good idea that tattoo artists could actually find useful if it’s not super expensive. If Moleskine isn’t looking into the idea of a synthetic skin notebook already, it definitely should be.
