As the weather starts to get hotter for summer, it seems like a shame to be spending time indoors.

There’s no better time of year to grab a spot in a sunny beer garden with a drink.

Here are 15 of the best beer gardens across Sydney.

Courthouse Hotel, Newtown

Known as ‘The Courty’ to locals, this pub has a fantastically sunny beer garden, and extremely unpretentious vibe. Wedge yourself among the tattooed, edgy Inner West folk and order a craft beer with your pub grub.

The Bank Hotel, Newtown

Looking at it from the street, you would never guess that the Bank hotel in Newtown has a hidden sunken beer garden that used to be a Thai restaurant, but it serves a better purpose as a fantastic spot to rehydrate just off bustling King Street.

Erskineville Hotel, Erskineville

Smack bang in the middle of leafy Erskineville is the Erko. A huge meat smoker sits in the beer garden, smoking all different kinds of daily meat specials such as brisket and chicken wings.

Jumping on Sydney’s obsession with gourmet and experimental burgers bandwagon, it has a burger menu with some interesting options like the “cheeky chicky choreezy”, which has a grilled chicken breast, chorizo sausage, guacamole and colourful pickled chilli.

The Beresford, Surry Hills

Whether you want breakfast, lunch, dinner, a quiet drink or a roaring night out The Beresford in Surry Hills caters for it all. The kitchen serves wood-fired pizza, salads, steaks and schnitzels, and the cocktail menu includes a delicious frose which is perfect on summer nights. Should you wish to continue on into the night, there’s a nighclub up on the second floor where you can boogie until the wee hours.

Although it boasts one of the fanciest menus of the beer garden venues on our list, The Tilbury still has a unpretentious vibe. It’s only a 5 minute drive from the CBD, but it feels like a world away thanks to the beachy decor and quiet atmosphere.

The Newport, Newport

Whether you miss the 1980’s style decor or you’re a fan of the schmick new renovations of the newly Merivale-acquired Newport, there’s no denying that the Newport’s beer garden is one of the biggest and buzziest on the Northern Beaches.

There’s a huge kid’s pavilion filled with games and activities, and 4 different kitchens offering seafood, burgers, rolls, pizza and salads, as well as a cocktail menu and dedicated sports bar.

The Greens, North Sydney

Formerly known as North Sydney Bowling Club, The Greens is a restaurant/bar/bowling club hybrid with a huge beer garden and a seriously comprehensive wine menu. Our pick? A chilled glass of the 2015 Chateau de Sours Bordeaux rose. Grab a spot to sit near the edge of the bowling green to catch all the lawn bowls action.

The Oaks, Neutral Bay

It’s been around for 132 years, and is one of Sydney’s best pubs. Only 10 minutes drive north of the CBD, the main feature of the Oaks is the stunning oak tree smack bang in the middle, which provides much-needed shade during the hot summer days, and looks magical lit up at night with fairy lights.

Parkhouse Food & Liquor, Mona Vale

Locals may know the spot as the old Mona Vale Hotel, but when you step into the newly-opened Parkhouse, the sticky former dancefloor is long gone. When you walk up to reception desk, the host offers you two menu options — the restaurant or the bar. Choose the latter, and claim a seat on the long benches in the sun to settle in for a long afternoon. Misters fixed to the exposed roof beams spray you with cool water at regular intervals on hot summer days.
