As far as we know, Bernie Madoff‘s sons are still claiming they had nothing to do with the $50 billion Ponzi scheme their father allegedly perpetrated. So, what do the younger Madoffs know about? Fly-fishing. It seems Bernie’s older son Andy has managed a fly-fishing empire for the past few years, and his other boy Mark (pictured at right) also fishes.
A blog post on the Website for fly-fishing journal Drake Magazine claims that Andy was an investor in New York’s Urban Angler Fly Shop, co-owned by Andy’s new girlfriend Katherine Hooper, who was previously in a relationship with fellow Urban Angler co-owner Jon Fisher. Urban Angler seems to have dissolved, but Andy, CEO of Abel Holdings, has moved on to Abel fly-fishing reels and fishing accessories, which his firm acquired in November 2007.
Thanks to Christopher Fountain who pointed out the Madoffs’s fly-fishing activities to us.
