Surreal Space Images Show Nation's Capital In The Dark

Last weekend, a string of powerful thunderstorms and record heat left more than one million homes across Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia without power. 

NASA’s Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite captured incredible before and after images that show massive power outages following the gigantic windstorm, known as a derecho.  

BEFORE: Washington D.C., Baltimore, Richmond and Philadelphia are lit up on June 28:
