If you’re a Baylor Bears football fan looking to buy season tickets on the cheap, the school has a gimmick for you.The high temperature in Waco on the Fourth of July will be the price point of all season tickets outside the “premium seating sections”, in a promotion running from July 5-10.
“While season ticket sales have been brisk, we believe this Independence Day promotion will be attractive to many of our fans who have not yet purchased tickets,” said Baylor’s Executive Associate A.D./External Affairs Nick Joos in a release on the Baylor athletics website. “Even if Waco were to record a new high for the 4th, fans would be looking at saving nearly 30 per cent off the cost of our Super Fan ticket. Of course, if we were to get a break from the hot weather we’ve had the last month, that discount would give fans an even lower price point at which to purchase season tickets.”
Don’t count on that “break from the hot weather”. The Weather Channel is forecasting 103 degree temperatures for Monday’s holiday, just two degrees lower than the record of 105 degrees set in 1933.
Non-premium season tickets for are currently $160 a piece for adults and $120 for “Superfan Youth” packages.
So Baylor fans won’t get a huge deal, but at least they’ll get something for suffering through the oppressive Texas heat at those Fourth of July barbecues.
