People who pay $5 for a latte have high expectations for service. Starbucks baristas recently shared their worst horror stories on Reddit.
One woman’s request defied nature:
“I once had a woman order an iced drink, but wanted the ice not to float to the top.”
Another customer got inventive:
“She told me to make a caramel macchiato and throw it in the blender with ice, I did EXACTLY that. It came out terrible and she demanded a refund.”
Some get angry that ice melts:
“People want ice in their tea to cool it off. That’s fine. But then they look at me like I shafted them when I hand them a cup of tea with no ice in it. The water is like 190 degrees! It melts, people!”
While others avoid ice:
“I had someone come in and ask me for a mocha frapaccino with no ice. I told him that they are made blended with ice, without the ice you are drinking base, mocha, a splash of milk and some coffee base. He said “the other Starbucks does it all the time” I asked him again if he was positive it wasn’t a iced mocha with no ice so I made him his disgusting drink with no ice and he drank it.”
And one order wins for the most complex:
It was a grande latte, two decaf shots of espresso on the bottom, two regular on the top, no foam and a bunch of other weird modifications. She was really awful about it too. It wasn’t impossible, just with the physics of it… its all gonna mix once I hand it off.
