Bank of America representatives have said today’s crushing website unavailability is merely a “sporadic” issue and that some customers are experiencing slower load times than normal. The problem is much more serious. Anecdotally, I know this because I’ve been unable to view the Bank of America homepage for most of today — although the mobile version appears to work still, providing a possible work-around for customers who need to access their balances right now.
And I just received a very interesting report from an AlertSite PR rep about the severity of the bank’s website outage: “According to the AlertSite data, between 12 a.m. EST and 9:15 a.m. EST the home page loaded normally with a response time of about four seconds. Starting at 9:20 a.m. until 10 a.m. approximately half of the measurements taken by AlertSite resulted in a timeout error related to slow loading. Between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. EST, 90% of the samples from the homepage returned a “Home Page Unavailable” message. The problem remains ongoing as of 3:28 p.m. EST.”
90 per cent unavailability is not exactly “sporadic,” in my view.
