In Bangkok, traffic gets so bad that the city has given hundreds of traffic officers midwife training. For policeman Mana Jokkoksung, that training has been crucial dozens of times: He has delivered 47 children whose mothers were stuck in traffic, according to the Telegraph.
The BBC reports that 107 babies have been born since the training program was introduced.
Traffic officers are given refresher courses once a year to keep them up to date.
It is unlikely that the prospect of being a part-time midwife is what drove Jokkoksung to join the police, but he seems happy to play the part. “I feel proud because all the people applaud and congratulate me,” he told the BBC.
