Some of Vivid Sydney’s best attractions have been damaged by strong winds overnight including the Cathedral of Light at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Installations at Circular Quay, Martin Place, First Fleet Park, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Martin Place, Darling Harbour, Taronga Zoo and the Royal Botanic Garden will be out of operation tonight.

Water-theatre shows and fireworks have also been cancelled at Darling Harbour tonight.

Projections on the Sydney Opera House, Customs House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge will remain including those inside Westfield Sydney and The Galeries.

Earlier today, the Bureau of Meteorology warned that eastern Australia would be facing a very wet and windy weekend with the chance of flash flooding.

Vivid Sydney executive producer Sandra Chipchase said anyone thinking of visiting Vivid tonight should postpone their trip until further notice.

“Vivid Sydney still has another 14 nights to run, so we suggest visitors delay their trip until weather conditions improve,” she said

The festival runs from May 27 to June 18.
