A couple trying to smuggle a five-month-old baby into the United Arab Emirates were caught out when the baby was spotted by the X-ray machine operator.
According to the police in the Emirate Sharjah, the father convinced the mother to put the baby in luggage out of “impatience” after the child was refused entry due to a lack of visa.
The couple arrived from an Arab country two days ago on Friday, a holiday, and since the child did not have an entry visa stamped on his passport, they were advised to wait until Sunday when the immigration office at the airport opens. But the impatient parents waited for the shift to change on Saturday morning at 10, and the father allegedly convinced the mother to join a queue at the immigration counter and place the child in the luggage, only to be spotted by an alert officer.
An X-ray image apparently of the baby in the bag has been doing the rounds:
Scarily, the baby could have been seriously harmed by the incident, a police officer told Gulf News.
“This machine is very dangerous for anyone, let alone a baby in a bag to pass through”, the officer said. The couple are now facing charges for endangering their child.
