In its second weekend “Avengers: Endgame” easily pushed away new releases “Long Shot,” “The Intruder,” and “UglyDolls,” to win the domestic box office for a second consecutive week.
Disney’s huge moneymaker brought in an estimated $US145.8 million, knocking off “Avengers: Infinity War” ($US114.7 million) to become the second best performance for a movie in its second weekend in theatres (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is still king of second weekend with $US149.2 million). The movie’s domestic total is now at $US619.7 million, making it the ninth-highest grossing all-time in North America.
Globally, the movie has now crossed the $US2 billion mark with $US2.188 billion, the fastest movie ever to accomplish the feat. Its international cume is at an astounding $US1.6 billion. “Endgame” has accomplished all of this in just 11 days in theatres worldwide (it took “Avatar” 47 days to become the fastest to $US2 billion).
The movie is now the second highest-grossing movie of all time globally.
Friday, “Endgame” had another $US100 million globally, taking in $US40.6 million domestically and $US88.2 million internationally for a $US128.8 global day. On Saturday, domestically the movie took in $US61.4 million. And on the 3D front, tomorrow the movie will be the third in history to generate over $US1 billion worldwide in just 3D ticket sales (“Force Awakens” and “Avatar”). 45% of “Endgame” ticket sales are from 3D.
The movie’s sights are now set on taking down the all-time box office leaders: domestically it’s “The Force Awakens” with $US936.6 million and worldwide it’s “Avatar” with $US2.8 billion (not counting inflation for either).
Meanwhile, Sony’s “The Intruder” took in $US11 million to land a distance second place at the domestic box office. In third was Lionsgate’s Seth Rogen/Charlize Theron comedy “Long Shot” with $US10 million, and STX’s animated “UglyDolls” came in fourth with $US8.5 million.
