Australian businesses are about to pay out $24 billion in dividends when investment is at recessionary levels

The UBS economics team led by Scott Haslem had this chart this week showing the painfully low levels of business investment in their historical context.

This week, we also learned that Australian businesses are about to pay some $24 billion, or about 1.5% of GDP, in dividends to shareholders over the coming year.

It’s not like there’s a shortage of good ideas looking for funding.
