Australia is searching for FootGolf champions to send a team to the world cup next year

Incase you’re new to the sport of footgolf, it’s a cross between soccer, or football, and golf. And Australia is about to get a national league.

FootGolf Australia is launching a national competition to find players to represent the country at the World Cup in Argentina in January next year.

Between August and November a number of qualifying rounds will be held to rank the nation’s top footgolfers. At each course, players will be ranked using their best 6 scores. The 72 best players will compete at the state championships in December.

The 2016 FootGolf World Cup is an individual men’s event. Australia has 16 spots to be filled by the top competitors from each state.

FootGolf takes golf’s dress code, with players instructed to wear collard shirts and white socks. Stubbies, tracksuits and elasticised waist pants aren’t acceptable attire for playing the sport.

Here are the game’s rules.
