The most expensive listing in America's wealthiest town got a $5 million price cut — take a look inside the 7-bedroom, $27.5 million Silicon Valley mansion

  • A seven-bedroom mansion in Atherton, California, is listed on the market for $US27.5 million.
  • The listing is the most expensive on the market in Atherton, which Forbes dubbed the wealthiest town in America in 2019.
  • The home at 61 Faxon Road was listed in June 2018 for $US32.5 million before a series of price cuts brought it down to the current tag of $US27.5 million.
  • But even with the price slash, the mansion is still the area’s most expensive public listing. Take a look around.

There’s a reason why Forbes listed Atherton, California, as the wealthiest town in America in 2019.

The town is nestled in the state’s Silicon Valley, a region famed for its magnitude of tech behemoths like Google and Facebook, meaning that tech workers in the area make some of the highest salaries in the country.

And there’s a decent chance that one such techie could become the owner of a newly-constructed, 13,014-square-foot residence at 61 Faxon Road, shelling out the asking total of $US27.5 million.

That price tag was $US5 million higher when it was listed in summer 2018, but in September of that year, the amount was slashed from $US32.5 million to $US29.5 million, according to Zillow. And just two months later the home saw another cut, this time lowering the price to $US27.5 million.

Even by Atherton’s standards, the price tag is a hefty one: According to Zillow, the median home value for the neighbourhood is $US6.57 million, four times less than that of the mansion’s current listed price.

And despite the price cut, the home is still the most expensive listing on the market in the country’s priciest zip code.

Take a look around.

The estate at 61 Faxon Road spans 1.07 acres and went on the market in June 2018. It sits in the vicinity of the area’s Menlo Circus Club, an exclusive social club for wealthy clientele.
