Dustin Kellogg, 18, a pitching prospect in the Houston Astros organisation, was killed last night in a car accident.
According to the Houston Chronicle Kellogg was driving near midnight, when his pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic and struck an 18-wheeler head-on.
Kellogg was a 34th-round draft pick this year for the Astros. He appeared in six games with the Astros rookie level club in the Gulf Coast League. He had a 1.42 ERA, striking out nine in 6.1 innings of relief.
Astros General Manager Ed Wade released a statement:
“We are deeply saddened by the news of Dustin’s passing. Although he had only been an Astros player for a short time, we share the pain of his family. Our prayers go out to Dustin’s loved ones.”
