Apparently Al-Qaeda Is A Huge Fan Of Photoshop And That Most Recent Image Was Just One Of Many

A computer graphic went viral just days ago that said “Al Qaeda: Coming Soon Again in New York.”The image was picked up from  the Ansar Al-Mujahideen Network, a 3-year-old site the NYPD calls a Category 1 website— meaning it’s heavily used by jihadis.

Ansar literally means “helpers” in Arabic and refers to Muslim converts at Medina who helped Muhammad and his followers when they arrived in the city in 622 AD.

Photoshop is popular on the site and there are forums specifically for images and designs, including tutorials on how to make cool-looking posters with the 3D modelling program Cinema 4D.

We saw the 3D pictures that Adrian Chen of Gawker published yesterday and decided to see what images we could find on the Ansar al Mujahiddin Arabic Forum.

The original graphic that went viral on Monday

More use of Cinema 4D

Guns and grenades are a popular subject

So is Osama bin Laden

Some graphics are minimal

While others are complex

There are a lot of tributes to fallen jihadis

And calls to arms

Fighting for the cause is glorified

With references to jihad as the quickest way to heaven

And animal metaphors

There's even a design for an interactive Christmas card (although it's burning)
