Sen. Rand Paul was hospitalized on Friday after an altercation with a neighbour.

Police charged Rene Boucher, 59, with fourth-degree assault after Boucher allegedly tackled the senator from behind, breaking several of Paul’s ribs.

Though initial details were murky, The Daily Beast’s Sam Stein shared Boucher’s arrest warrant on Monday which detailed the incident.

According to chief of staff Doug Staffer, the senator could take months to recover from his injuries.

Though the motive is still unknown, The Washington Post reported that one source told them Boucher’s leaned left politically and was “active on social media and said some negative things about the Republican agenda.”

A statement from Boucher’s lawyer, however, said the altercation had nothing to do with politics and was “over a matter that most people would regard as trivial.”
