Private equity firms have approached AOL in hopes of buying Huffington Post, but talks aren’t going to go anywhere, Arianna Huffington just told Henry Blodget during a keynote interview at our Startup 2012 conference in Manhattan.Last night, we relayed some scuttlebutt: That Arianna Huffington wants to buy HuffingtonPost back from AOL, and private equity firms have approached her about raising money to do it.

Separately, we heard that Huffington took these pitches to Armstrong, and he said something like, “sure, you can have HuffPo…for a billion dollars.”

Just now, Henry asked her about the whole thing.

First, Huffington answered with a joke: “Actually, I would like to announce a Kickstarter campaign to raise a billion dollars.”

“It will be the first Kickstarter campaign to raise a $1 billion. For a million dollars you get life long blogging privileges.”

Then, getting serious, she confirmed that yes, private equity firms have approached AOL about HuffPo, but that the talks ended there.

She says its true that Huffington Post is in the process of becoming more independent within AOL.
