HBO will premiere a show called “Pacquiao-Margarito 24/7” on Saturday. The reality show will follow boxers Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margartio during the three weeks leading up to their November 13 Cowboy Stadium bout.
The show is boxing’s equivalent to Hard Knocks, and definitely worth watching for enthusiasts and the curious, alike.
But boxing’s demise in the US has led to poor ratings for the show.
The series last featured Pacquiao in the weeks leading up to his Las Vegas fight against Miguel Cotto.
Last year’s edition garnered about 400,000 viewers. When it came time for Pacquiao and Cotto to actually lace up the gloves and box in the MGM Grand, the fight generated 1.25 million pay-per-view purchases. At $54.95, that turned into a significant chunk of change for HBO, the fighters, and the promoters.
Some pundits feel the 24/7 series provides a huge boost to pay-per-view revenue.
Here’s the trailer.
