Apple’s next iPhone, due at the end of September, will be a small upgrade to the current iPhone 4, according an updated report in the Wall Street Journal. The major overhaul of the phone is coming next year.

Yesterday the Journal reported the next iPhone would be thinner and lighter. It also reported component suppliers thought it would be complicated to make.

That report was authored by Lorraine Luk. The updated version of the story has Yukari Iwatane Kane’s name attached to it. Iwatane Kane is the Journal’s ace Apple reporter, and it seems she added some more information.

Details on the revamped iPhone coming out in 2012 are slim, but Iwatane Kane and Luk say Apple is experimenting with new ways of charging the phone.

As for the new iPhone we will see this year — it will look similar to the iPhone 4, though Apple is slimming it down.
