Few things are as frustrating as a phone call where the signal fades in and out and you can’t understand the person you’re speaking to.A patent published by the USPTO this morning shows that Apple is looking into a system that would let people broadcast the best way to reach them, reports Apple Insider.

Based on network status and signal strength, your iPhone could let other devices know whether it’s best to call, text, FaceTime, or iMessage.

From the patent: “For example, if a wireless device has two or fewer bars, a text based communication may be recommended, rather than a telephone call.”
