Google announced the newest version of its mobile payment app Google Wallet earlier this week, and the big selling point this time around is that you can use any major credit card with it. However, that may not be true for long.It turns out that American Express, one of the four big credit card companies Google claims to have partnered with, never formally agreed to the arrangement.

A spokesperson for American Express told TechCrunch that Google hasn’t “gotten our approval for the additional use.” For the time being, you can still load an AmEx card on Google Wallet, but the spokesperson specifically pointed out that American Express could kill this feature if talks between the two companies don’t go well.

Google has since responded to the news, telling TechCrunch that the two companies are in “active discussions” and that they “look forward to working together as partners as the world embraces digital payments.”
