Ever since AIG (AIG) collapsed, folks have been wondering who would take over as the chief sponsor of soccer team Manchester United, the most popular sports team in the worlds, whose jerseys are emblazoned with the AIG logo.
The answer: It’s another insurer; this time AON. The Chicago-based company does insurance, re-insurance and all that stuff. Frankly, we think it’s bad karma for another insurer to be taking over the AIG slot. According to the NYT, the deal is believed to be worth $32.5 million per year, substantially more than what AIG was paying. The sponsorship starts in the 2010-2011 season.
