Why? Because it looks and feels just like Google, instead of earlier versions of AOL’s search, which prominently featured lots rich content, much of it from AOL and Time Warner offerings. It’s a worthwhile critique in large part because of the man who’s making it: John McKinley, AOL’s former CTO (he also held the same role at Merrill Lynch prior to that). John’s now running his own investment and advisory boutique and blogging, often incisively, at his GreatFallsVentures site. AOL Search – a case of sincere flattery, but a bad business decision?
