Italian politician Antonio Piazza has been forced to resign after he was caught slashing the tires of a disabled man who complained about him parking in a disabled spot, AGI reports.
The incident began when Piazza, a member of Silvio Berlusconi’s PDL party and head of a corporation that manages public housing, had tried to park his Jaguar car in Lecco, northern Italy, in late August.
According to the Telegraph, Piazza drove into a disabled parking spot, which he says he had used for years, but was then challenged about his behaviour by Giuseppe Scuderi, a local disabled man. An argument ensued and Scuderi called the police, who gave Piazza an 80 euro fine and forced him to vacate the spot.
Half an hour later he snuck back and used a knife to slash Scuderi’s tires. Unfortunately for him, he was captured on CCTV.
Piazza unsuccessfully attempted to minimize the damage to his career, telling Italian press that the Jaguar was “second hand and 12,000 euros” and that “last Friday I was having lunch with 36 people with disabilities”.
He was forced to resign from both his day job and political position.
