Microsoft has built its own phone, and it is currently testing the hardware, Daniel Rubino at Windows Phone focused blog WPCentral reports. This is the third report on Microsoft’s phone this week. Previously tech blog BGR said Microsoft was build a phone, as did the China Times.
Rubino has no details on the Microsoft phone other than the fact that it’s in testing and its coming.
Oddly, Rubino suggests one reason Microsoft is going to do its own phone is that it’s not happy with how Nokia is branding Windows Phones.
Nokia is Microsoft’s most important mobile partner. It calls its Windows Phones “Lumias.” Rubino says he’s heard rumblings Microsoft is unhappy that it’s playing up Lumia and downplaying Windows Phone.
The other reason Microsoft is interested in doing its own phone is to have a back up plan in case Nokia either goes out of business or fails to deliver Windows Phone sales.
