If you want to know why Angela Merkel is sticking to a hard stance on Greece and the rest of the Eurozone, this is all you need to know.WSJ:
According to the ARD poll, 66% of German voters are content with Ms. Merkel’s politics, up from 58% last month–her best results since December 2009. The left-wing opposition’s Frank-Walter Steinmeier, a potential SPD challenger for Ms. Merkel in 2013, trails the chancellor at 61%.
Whether you agree with Merkel’s approach or not, the Germans are happy to see Merkel standing up for their interests, and the fact that the rest of the world continues to gleefully attack her is probably also making her more popular at home.
