Amtrak Conductors Will Soon Be Scanning Tickets With iPhones

Amtrak conductors will soon be upgrading from hole punchers to iPhones, reports the New York Times.

By late summer, 1,700 conductors around the country will scan ticket barcodes using Apple hardware instead of punching holes in them.

Customers don’t even need to print their tickets. If they can pull up the barcode on a smartphone, conductors can scan it on the phone’s screen.

We’re reminded of how many airlines are switching out loads of paper flight documentation and having pilots carry around iPads instead.
