First it was a rumour, now it’s a reality: the long-awaited fourth “American Pie” theatrical release, “American Reunion,” is ready for the big screen.
And judging from the trailer, it may be, financially, the best-positioned film out of the series.
The preview — and, we assume, the script — is set up to capitalise on the buddy-blockbuster zeitgeist set off by “The Hangover” and “Bridesmaids.”
While the girls hover in the background, the boys, from their respective jobs and homes, agree to reconvene for a wild weekend.
There’s even a slow-motion walking sequence a la “Entourage.”
Besides that, the timing is perfect: “American Pie” came out in 1999. “American Reunion” will come out in 2012.
Thus, the same teens who spent high school watching the original films are themselves in the reunion phase now.
in any case — maybe it’s the absence of pie and the increased presence of Eugene Levy — but this just looks a little tighter, comedically, than the previous films.
