Amazon’s getting ripped for selling a puzzle that features an image of the crematorium at the infamous Nazi concentration camp Dachau, reports Der Spiegel. The 252-piece puzzle sold for $24.99.
It sparked quite a firestorm for Amazon. Various groups in Germany spoke out against Amazon and the puzzle.
For instance, the head of a conservative Bavarian party — whose constituency includes Dachau — sent a letter to Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos which said, “for the survivors of the concentration camp and the relatives of victims this is a slap in the face,” according to Der Spiegel.
And a spokesperson for the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial called for a review of the legality of selling the puzzle. He told a local paper, “the toy is a trivialization of the place and its history.”
Apparently, all the vocal outrage worked. The listing for the puzzle appears to have been taken down now, but the AFP notes that there’s another puzzle for sale that depicts a crematorium at another camp that was in Czechoslovakia.
