Subscribers to Amazon’s Prime service can now rent a book each month for free on Kindle devices — but not on any other device.Amazon is restricting iPad, iPhone and other mobile device users from the service to drive Kindle device sales, the company told the Wall Street Journal.

Kindle owners can now rent one book each month from a list of more than 5,000 titles, including more than 100 New York Times bestsellers, if they subscribe to Amazon’s yearly Prime service. That costs $79 each year and includes free two-day shipping and video streaming.

None of the six largest publishers are participating in the new program, according to the report.
