Amazon’s app store for Google Android devices is launching soon — this month — according to this tweet from mobile ad network Millennial Media.”Launching this month! Amazon Appstore for #Android—learn more here,” the company just tweeted, with a link to a blog post explaining why developers should care.
Assuming no further delays, Amazon could give Google’s built-in store a run for its money, assuming people bother to download it. While Google has made recent improvements to the Android App Market, it could still use more polish. If Amazon does a better job highlighting cool apps and generating revenue for developers, it could become popular with both consumer and app makers.
One of the big questions we still have is how developers will take to the fact that Amazon will be the one setting app prices in its store. If that ultimately generates more revenue, that’s great. But if app publishers feel cheated, it might not go over so well.
