The verdict in the Amanda Knox appeal is due within the hour. The latest reports suggest it wil come out at 9.45pm Perugia time, which is 3.45pm in New York.
Knox, 24, and her ex-boyfriend Sollecito, 27, are appealing their murder convictions. The pair were convicted of the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher.
Knox’s hopes of winning the appeal are high after DNA evidence form the original trial was discredited.
UPDATE: Knox and Sollecito have both won their appeal, with the convictions for murder and sexual assault overturned.
She has been found guilty of defamation against police and must pay damages to financial compensation for Patrick Lumumba, a man she earlier accused of the murder.
She has been sentenced to three years for the accusation that police assaulted her in interrogations but time already served (4 years) is counted against that. Both Knox and Sollecito are to be released tonight. There are reports that a major network is paying for a private jet to fly her home.
Prosecutors have in the past said they will try and launch another trail against Knox if she was found innocent, so this may not be over yet.
Here’s the video of the moment she found out.
