Following Amanda Knox‘s verdict reversal today — she’s been cleared of murder — Lifetime released a statement saying they’d update the movie they made about her.
“Amanda Knox: On Trial for Murder in Italy” debuted on the network eight months ago and starred Hayden Panettiere in the title role.
And it’s still airing.
But from now on, the movie will include cards in its opening and closing sequences that point out Knox is free and clear.
That’s not going to do much for anyone who tunes in after the first two minutes or before the last two — and let’s face it, Lifetime movies aren’t appointment viewing for most people.
So why is this a big deal?
Well, the movie didn’t exactly paint Knox favourably — there’s plenty of attention to her romance and, as Fox News loves calling the incident that led to the murder or Meredith Kercher, a night of “drug-fuelled sex games.”
The trailer’s been recut in a kinder light — check out the new one and the original, with its flashes of knives and the murder scene, below.
