FROM ENLISTMENT TO THE A-LIST: These 9 Actors Started Out As Military Servicemen

It’s about as big a career change as one can imagine — but some of Hollywood’s current leading men started out as soldiers.

On “LIVE! With Regis and Kelly” this morning, “True Blood” star Alexander Skarsgard mentioned he’d had military experience before he turned to acting.

He might be the latest vet-turned-star — but he’s not alone.

Alan Alda is an Army Reserve vet of the Korean War.

Gene Hackman joined the Marines when he was 16 and served four years.

Clint Eastwood (shown here during active duty) was drafted during the Korean War. He served as an on-base swimming instructor.

Chuck Norris spent a few years in the Air Force.

Ice T served four years in the Army after high school.

Drew Carey spent six years in the Marines. This is him in uniform.

Bill Cosby served as a Navy hospital foreman for four years.

Rob Riggle spent all of the nineties in the marines.

Alexander Skarsgard was a Swedish marine before he started acting.
