Alcoa topped analyst expectations this afternoon when it reported revenue grew 6% year-on-year to nearly $6 billion.  Although the company reported a net loss, the magnitude of the loss was in line with expectations.More importantly, the aluminium giant gave 2012 guidance, which offers a unique perspective on the global economy.

“For 2012, we expect global aluminium demand to grow 7 per cent and are forecasting a global deficit in primary aluminium supply,” said Alcoa CEO Klaus Kleinfeld.
