If you’ve been following the Egypt story closely this likely won’t come as a surprise to you simply because chances are you yourself are part of the traffic increase Al Jazeera English has seen this week.
Since Friday Al Jazeera’s English website, where you can watch their coverage streamed live, has seen a two-and-a-half thousand per cent increase in web traffic…60 per cent of that traffic has come from the United States, reports HuffPo.
That’s because, again you probably know this, you can’t get Al Jazeera English on regular U.S. cable — even the President needs a satellite feed. This is primarily because post-Sept. 11 America the channel was accused in a number of quarters of promoting anti-American sentiment.
One suspects this blackout may not hold. As Al Jazeera’s coverage continues to put America’s to shame there has been a widespread outcry over the nation’s lack of access to the channel — it’s available in Canada.
In the meantime, advertisers looking for extra eyes know where to buy space.
