Following the shooting of unarmed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin at the hands of George Zimmerman, a member of a local neighbourhood watch group in Florida, Fox has changed the name of its film “neighbourhood Watch” to “The Watch” in order to distance itself from the tragedy.
“The Watch” is a comedy starring Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, and Vice Vaughn and is scheduled for a summer release on June 27.
“As the subject matter of this alien invasion comedy bears no relation whatsoever to the recent tragic events in Florida, the studio altered the title to avoid any accidental or unintended misimpression that it might,” Fox said in a statement.
This isn’t the first time Fox has changed its marketing plans for the film. A teaser trailer and promotional poster for the summer flick were pulled following Martin’s death.
