Yahoo’s VP of North American account management, Right Media veteran Wendi Sturgis, is leaving the company.According to her LinkedIn profile, Sturgis is “responsible for search, display, mobile and video account management for Yahoo! North America.”
Yahoo disappointed Wall Street with its second quarter earnings for one main reason: display advertising sales came in below expectations.
And why did that happen?
During a conference call, CEO Carol Bartz said Yahoo’s sales force blew it because a “re-org” had everybody out of place.
“We didn’t have enough sales people in front of the big clients.”
Managing “big clients” is Sturgis’s main job, so this news that will undoubtedly make matters worse.
Was Sturgis fired? Thrown under the bus for Yahoo’s poor quarter?
According to our source, the answer is no. He says she’s quitting for “a much better opportunity” and that Yahoo “tried hard to keep her.”
Update: A second source tells us Sturgis had three offers, and that she took the one from YEXT – a company chaired by former Yahoo and Right Media CEO Michael Walrath.
