Police responded to reports of an active shooter Tuesday afternoon at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Montgomery County Police confirmed to WTOP that they were responding to an incident at the hospital.
Several tweets appeared to come from people being held in lockdown on the medical center’s campus.
WTOP reporter Megan Cloherty tweeted that initial reports said shots came from the basement of Building 19, which is near Wisconsin Avenue on the west end of the campus.
Maryland Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger tweeted he was being held with 40 others in a conference room.
I am currently at Walter Reed Medical in Bethesda where we've been told there is an active shooter. I am currently safe in a conference room w/ approx 40 others.

A video from Georgetown University Medical Center resident Lindsey Migliore showed officers with guns filing across a lawn on the campus.
