Today, two new $100 million funds are being announced. Accel Partners, which has made investments in Cloudera, Lot18 and LearnVest, has launched a $100 million fund to invest in big data companies.

American Express has also launched its own $100 million fund. It will use the fund to invest in startups, specifically ones that focus on mobile payment solutions, fraud detection, ecommerce, loyalty and reward platforms, and data.

American Express has long been dedicated to small businesses. It spends a lot of time and resources on its small business blog, Amex Open Forum. Investing in payment-focused startups is a smart way for it to keep up to speed on innovations in its space.
