Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, a billionaire member of the Abu Dhabi ruling family, is known for his wild spending antics. After seeing the a photo of the Sheikh’s massive Mercedes monster truck and learning that he was nicknamed the Rainbow Sheikh for owning seven Mercedes S-Classes in different colours, we had to know more.
Thankfully, our tipster in the UAE was willing to share with us a whole collection of photos of the Rainbow Sheikh’s Emirates National Auto Museum in Abu Dhabi, and the vehicles range from the mundane to the insane.
A regular building was not good enough for his cars. Like any average person, he decided to commission a specially built pyramid to house the collection.
But that is not a surprise. Al Nahyan is the same person who had his name carved so wide in the desert sand that it could be seen from space.
If we had to give the Rainbow Sheikh an American equivalent, it would be a hybrid of Jay Leno and Ralph Lauren. He has almost every vehicle imaginable, but does not seem to hit the road very often.
He starts off with a nice collection of Mini Coopers. In the foreground is a very cool looking first generation red Cooper Cabriolet.
This dune buggy looks a bit like a Meyers Manx mixed with a dash of something you'd see in Scooby Doo. All around, very cool.
His tastes are not strictly modern either. This appears to be a replica of an 1885 Benz Patent Motorwagen.
In the foreground is a regular Dodge Power Wagon. Behind it is the largest Power Wagon in the world; it's eight times the size of a standard Power Wagon.
In the front we have a desert racer, in the background we have what could quite possibly be a flying car.
In addition to the monster truck Mercedes that sits at the entrance, he has this one for trips that don't require that he runs over countless numbers of vehicles.
