Syria's Deputy Oil Minister Announces He Has Quit And Joined The Rebels

Abdo Hussameddin, the deputy oil minister in the Syrian government, has announced his resignation and stated that he plans to join the rebels, the BBC reports.

Hussameddin made his announcement in a video on YouTube, that we’ve included below. “I am joining the revolution of the people who reject injustice and the brutal campaign of the regime,” he says.

He goes on to say that he does not want to die “serving a criminal regime”.

“That is why I have joined the right path knowing that this regime will burn down my house, hunt down my family and fabricate lies.”

Hussameddin is the highest ranking civilian official to join the rebels so far.
