A Peek At What Google's $100 Million Content Push For YouTube Will Look Like

Google announced it was giving 100 content creators more than $100 million to create original videos for YouTube.We perused the list to find the best of what will come out in the next few months.

The people making the videos are great. The question is whether or not Google can promote them to create a truly disruptive media property.

BAM makes special effects magic.

Description: 'Where YouTube's top special effects masters show off their tricks. Featuring MysteryGuitarMan, Corridor Digital, and Mike Diva.'

Why we're excited: It's curated by Big Frame. And their stuff is awesome.

VICE will blow your brain. Or maybe blow it up.

Description: 'The VICE Channel will offer the most eyeball-scorching shows about news, travel, fashion, sports, entertainment, and food the world has ever known.'

Why we're excited: These boys have balls.

RIDE Channel will keep the adrenaline high.

Description: 'From Tony Hawk. Action, lifestyle, travel, humour and behind-the-scenes from the world of skateboarding & action sports.'

Why we're excited: Because 900s are just a start.

The Comedy Shaq Network is obviously named.

Description: 'From Shaquille O'Neal. An urban comedy network featuring stand up comedy, sketch comedy, sitcoms and animation.'

Why we're excited: Superman isn't afraid to speak his mind.

The Onion will continue what they've already begun.

Description: 'The online presence of the Onion Broadcasting Company.'

Why we're excited: The Onion News Network is great, and we expect more of the same.

Red Bull will increase the adrenaline.

Description: 'The Red Bull channel chronicles the competition and daily lives of the world's best action sports athletes.'

Why we're excited: More wingsuits.

The Wall Street Journal will bring a refined sense to the site.

Description: 'A lifestyle channel featuring a daily show based on Off Duty, covering design, fashion, travel, wine, food and tech.'

Why we're excited: The best corkscrews? OK, how about Spartan racing?

The Nerdist Channel, well, you figure it out.

Description: 'Brought to you by the nerd friendly folks at Nerdist Industries, The Jim Henson Co. GeekChicDaily & Broadway Video Entertainment.'

Why we're excited: Muppets!

Start is all about video games.

Description: 'START: New video games channel hosted by IGN Entertainment, in partnership with Shine Group, for anyone who loves or plays games.'

Why we're excited: GTA V Trailer.

The Bowery Presents has concerts from New York.

Description: 'Live streaming concert films and intimate acoustic performances from the industry's leading and emergent artists.'

Why we're excited: Broken Social Scene?

TEDEducation will make you smarter.

Description: 'Audio from incredible teachers vivified by some of the world's best animators.'

Why we're excited: THESE PEOPLE ARE ALL SO SMART.

SBNation is sports, sports, sports. (But we're excited about something else, too.)

Description: 'A next-generation sports video network: web talent, community experts; technology-powered; fan-authentic, social and fun.'

Why we're excited: Xtina flubs. (Actually, the eventual Verge spinoff.)

Smart Girls at the Party is educational AND funny.

Why we're excited: Sexy tennis. (And smart, funny women.)

Machinima offers the best of video games with a bit of humour.

Description: 'Entertainment destination for gamers around the world, featuring action, thriller, horror, sci-fi, and irreverent comedy content.'

Why we're excited: Um, more of this.

Life + Times is a Jay Z joint.

Description: 'From Jay Z, Life + Times is based on Jay's hugely popular and very personal lifeandtimes.com.'

Why we're excited: The website is beautiful. And maybe there will be some Beyonce videos.

Maybe these women will get deals next.
