A horse “dramatically” collapsed and died on the field during this past weekend’s Bridgehampton Polo match, the first of the season after two previous matches were rained out, the New York Post reports.Fortunately, no one was injured when the horse, a $100,000 pony being ridden by a player on the Circa team, suddenly dropped to the ground, as the rider managed to jump off on time, the Post writes. The horse was supposedly 11 years old, and died of a heart attack.
Circa, owned by jewelry reseller Chris Del Gatto, had been playing famed Argentine polo player Nacho Figueras’ squad. Circa managed to win the match, 12-11.
