After seeing yesterday’s chart comparing Microsoft and Google’s market cap, a source who once worked at Microsoft reached out to talk about good old days.
Or, maybe they weren’t so good.
The best thing we heard from him was about the difference between a Steve Ballmer product review and a Bill Gates product review.
Our source said Ballmer had a temper when it came to dealing with his employees.
This employee recalled an “icky silence and ensuing storm” whenever suggesting support for app development for basic operations. Ballmer acted very “hierarchical in nature and superior-toned without reason,” says our source.
It was “significantly different” from how Gates used to grill his employees. Gates interrogations “seemed like interrogatories by a genius who knew it, and was in a hurry.”
The employee still maintains a positive feel for the company and said it still has “first rate talent,” but not as much. Many friends have left the company, the employee said.
