A 28-year old diplomat’s son and self-proclaimed private equity whiz, Iani Tassev, is being investigated for running a “New York-based weed empire,” according to the NYPost.
Iani went to Middlesex, a private boarding school in Massachusets, and later, Bard College, before graduating and entering the scene of “Private Equity and Venture Capital,” according to his LinkedIn profile.
According to New York prosecutors, private eq-weed-y is more like it.
His shell company, or perhaps his side business, appears to have been called “Tassev Brothers,” and based on its website, it was located in Bulgaria. His weed (“high potency weed,” according to the Post) however apparently came from Canada.
Being a diplomat’s son (Iani is the son of Bulgaria’s deputy finance minister and ex-city diplomat Stamen Tassev) might have made it easier to do all this jet-setting with the “1000s of kilos” of weed he had according to the Post, but this guy is a hustler. Instead of taking the easy way out, he smuggled the weed across an Indian Reservation.
Here’s a picture of the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation, a Mohawk Indian reservation in New York:
As you can see, the location is perfect. But a rich kid smuggling thousands of dollars-plus worth of marijuana through an Indian Reservation is just idiotic. They’re dangerous. Then again, so is throwing away a promising future by running a “weed empire” and getting out-ed by the Post.
